What Does the Drink Drivers Course Cover?

Our Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) approved drink drivers course is a non-judgmental educational course covering relevant topics around alcohol and drink driving. The course is designed to offer support and to provide information for convicted drink drivers.

Completing a Drink Drivers Course

Drink drivers courses are for people that have been sentenced with a driving ban for drink driving. By agreeing to a attend a course to reduce a driving ban, you need to complete the course correctly.

Courses are delivered over a three day period, either on weekdays or at weekends. The LTP Driver Training courses generally run from 09:30 am to 16:30 pm, with three breaks in the day. The total length of the course is sixteen hours, excluding the breaks.

You will have to attend three sessions spread over three consecutive weeks. And you are required to participate throughout the whole period of the three days of the day courses.

Therefore you must ensure that you can attend all three days of the course you have booked. Should your attendance be interrupted, and there is a genuine reason for this, then LTP Driver Training may transfer you to another course if they are able to. Or provide a catch up session within a group environment.

Without a genuine reason for interrupting your attendance, you will be required to pay the full cost for re-booking onto any new course.

The course content will involve:

  • short lectures.
  • group activities and discussions.
  • role play.
  • assessment of personal drinking habits.
  • presentations from internal/external sources.

Both the classroom and online drink drive rehabilitation courses will be attended by up to twenty people at a time. This will enable the group activities and discussions. Everyone on the course will be working to reduce their driving ban length and group learning is an important feature of a drink drivers course.

Additionally, as being sentenced for drink driving is not a pleasant experience, it often helps people on a drink drivers course to hear other peoples’ stories. Shared experiences are a simple human way of helping us to feel less isolated about a bad situation.

Successful completion of the course requires full attendance of all pre-booked sessions, payment of the fees in full prior to course commencing and compliance with the course organiser’s reasonable requirements.

Drink Driving Rehabilitation Course Violations

As one of the DVSA approved drink drive course providers we are legally bound to report anyone to the Court and/or the police that does any of the following:

  • that does not attend.
  • that arrives late to the course.
  • is not in a fit state to participate i.e showing any evidence of alcohol or illicit drugs use.
  • being under the influence of a substance including alcohol.
  • drinking alcohol during the course.
  • driving to or from a course whilst disqualified from driving.
  • using abusive, foul language or threatening behaviour towards LTP Driver Training staff or other course members.
  • fraudulently producing ID documents.
  • posing as someone else to take the course.
  • smoking or vaping during the course.

If you are reported back to the Court, it will not offer you the option to take another course. The police may also arrest you again.

Drink Drive Rehabilitation Courses Outcomes

Having successfully completed your drink drivers awareness course the following will occur:

  • you will be awarded with a course Certificate of Completion.
  • LTP Driver Training will officially inform the sentencing Court that you have successfully completed the course.
  • the sentencing Court will then notify the DVLA that you have successfully completed the course.
  • your period of driving disqualification is reduced by the amount of time offered to you by the Court during sentencing.
  • research linked to the drink driving awareness courses shows that you should be much less likely to reoffend.

Please be aware that LTP Driver Training cannot be held responsible if there are any other material offences which may affect your ability to renew your driving licence sooner.
